Step 1: Prepare the Chicken
Season generously : Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels (this helps them cook evenly). Sprinkle both sides with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. If you have time, let them marinate for 10–15 minutes for deeper flavor.
Cook to perfection : Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of oil or butter. Once hot, place the chicken in the pan. Cook for about 6–7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and fully cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).
Let it rest : Remove the chicken from the pan and let it sit for a couple of minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, keeping the meat juicy and tender.
Step 2: Assemble the Sandwich
Toast the bun (optional) : Lightly toast your buns for added texture—it’s a small step that makes a big difference!
Spread the sauce : Generously spread mayonnaise or your chosen sauce on the inside of the bun. This not only adds flavor but also prevents the bread from getting soggy.
Layer the toppings : Start with a few lettuce leaves, followed by slices of tomato and pickles. If using cheese, place it on top of the chicken so it melts slightly as the sandwich comes together.
Step 3: Add the Chicken
Slice if needed : For easier eating, especially for school lunches, slice the chicken diagonally into strips or smaller pieces before adding it to the sandwich.
Build and serve : Place the chicken on top of the toppings, then close the sandwich. Cut it in half if you’re packing it for lunch—it fits better in boxes this way!
